What is the name of the drag racing track in Gainesville, Florida that hosts the Gatornationals?
Answer
Gainesville Raceway
Answer
Gainesville Raceway
The drag racing track in Gainesville, Florida, that hosts the Gatornationals is Gainesville Raceway.
Gainesville Raceway is a quarter-mile NHRA drag strip located just outside Gainesville, Florida. The facility opened in 1969 and hosted its first Gatornationals in 1970. The Gatornationals quickly became one of the most important annual events on the NHRA schedule and remains associated with the track today.
The venue is especially famous for its fast racing surface and long launchpad. Several major speed milestones were recorded there, including the first 260-mph, 270-mph, and 300-mph Top Fuel runs. Kenny Bernstein broke the 300-mph barrier at Gainesville during qualifying for the 1992 Gatornationals.
A common mix-up is confusing the event name with the facility name: “Gatornationals” refers to the race, while Gainesville Raceway is the track. The venue also includes a separate road course used for testing, driving schools, and training events.
