What is the name of the death-row inmate with healing powers in The Green Mile?

The story behind the answer

The death-row inmate with healing powers in The Green Mile is John Coffey.

John Coffey arrives at Cold Mountain Penitentiary already convicted of raping and murdering two young girls. Despite his imposing 6-foot-8-inch frame, he is portrayed as gentle, frightened of the dark, and deeply sensitive to the suffering of others. His supernatural abilities become clear when he heals Paul Edgecombe’s urinary infection and revives the mouse Mr. Jingles.

Coffey later draws an inoperable brain tumor from Melinda Moores, the warden’s wife. The experience leaves him suffering, but it also helps reveal that he was innocent: William “Wild Bill” Wharton committed the murders for which Coffey was condemned.

The wrong options are all characters from the same story. Paul Edgecombe supervises the death row block, Eduard Delacroix is another inmate, and William Wharton is the actual killer. Coffey nevertheless accepts execution because he is overwhelmed by the cruelty he senses in the world.
