The Corvette’s all-wheel-drive hybrid model is the E-Ray.
Chevrolet unveiled the C8 E-Ray on January 17, 2023, as a 2024 model-year Corvette. It combines the Stingray’s 6.2-liter LT2 V8, which drives the rear wheels, with an electric motor powering the front wheels. Because the front and rear axles are driven independently, the system is often described as electric all-wheel drive, or eAWD.
The E-Ray is not simply a hybrid version of the Z06. It uses the Stingray-based LT2 rather than the Z06’s naturally aspirated 5.5-liter LT6 flat-plane-crank V8, although the E-Ray borrows some of the Z06’s wider bodywork and wheel proportions. Its battery pack is a compact 1.9-kWh unit, and total system output is 655 horsepower.
A common mix-up is calling the E-Ray the first Corvette hybrid only because of its name. It is also the first production Corvette with all-wheel drive, and Chevrolet positioned it as an all-weather performance model rather than an economy-focused hybrid. Its electric front axle also enables low-speed Stealth Mode driving under suitable conditions.
