The cliffside viewpoint in Guam associated with a legend of two lovers is Two Lovers Point. Its Chamorro name is Puntan Dos Amåntes, and the cape overlooks northern Tumon Bay and the Philippine Sea from Tamuning. The limestone cliff rises approximately 370 feet above the sea and is one of Guam’s National Natural Landmarks.

The best-known version of the story tells of a Chamorro man and a woman whose family intended her to marry someone else. Rather than be separated, the couple tied their hair together and leapt from the cliff. The details vary, however. An earlier account recorded by French explorer Louis de Freycinet in 1819 describes forbidden love between people of different social classes and includes the burial of their infant before the couple’s final climb.

During the Spanish colonial period, the site was known as Cabo de los Amantes, or Lovers’ Cape. Today it is a major tourist attraction with a lookout, park facilities, and views across Tumon Bay. Fort Soledad and Ypao Beach are also Guam landmarks, but neither is the lovers’ cliff.
