What is the name of the city where the Wizard of Oz lives?

The story behind the answer

The city where the Wizard of Oz lives is the Emerald City. In L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and her companions travel along the Yellow Brick Road to reach this glittering capital at the center of Oz. It is the Wizard’s seat of power and the place where Dorothy hopes to ask for help returning to Kansas.

The Emerald City is famous for its green appearance, but Baum’s original story adds an important twist: visitors are required to wear green-tinted spectacles, making the city appear greener than it really is. The city’s name and imagery became central to later Oz books, stage productions, films, and popular culture.

A common mix-up is confusing the city with Oz itself. Oz is the entire fantasy land, while the Emerald City is its capital. Kansas is Dorothy’s home, Munchkinland is the region where her house first lands, and “Oz” is not the city’s name. In later Oz stories, the city is associated with Princess Ozma as ruler, although the Wizard is its most famous resident.
