What is the name of the cinematographer who worked on 'Raging Bull' and 'Taxi Driver'?
Answer
Michael Chapman
Answer
Michael Chapman
Michael Chapman was the cinematographer who worked on Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. His bold visual style became central to both films’ identities, helping translate their psychological intensity into images.
Chapman shot Taxi Driver in 1976, using expressive camera movement, saturated color, and reflective urban imagery to follow Travis Bickle’s alienation through nighttime Manhattan. He reunited with Scorsese for Raging Bull in 1980, whose stark black-and-white photography and elaborate boxing sequences became among his most celebrated work.
Raging Bull earned Chapman an Academy Award nomination for Best Cinematography. He also served as cinematographer on Scorsese’s 1978 documentary The Last Waltz and shot the 1987 music video short film for Michael Jackson’s “Bad.” A common mix-up is Robert Richardson, who later became one of Scorsese’s major cinematographic collaborators, including on Casino, The Aviator, and Hugo.
