The Tortellis
Answer
The Tortellis
The Cheers spin-off centered on Carla's ex-husband Nick is The Tortellis.
Nick Tortelli, played by Dan Hedaya, was Carla Tortelli's loud, scheming ex-husband. His new wife, Loretta, was played by Jean Kasem, and both characters had appeared several times on Cheers before receiving their own series. The spin-off explored Nick's attempts to repair his relationship with Loretta after she left him and moved to Las Vegas.
The Tortellis premiered on NBC in January 1987 and lasted for 13 episodes. Nick moved to Las Vegas, where he tried to reform his behavior, reconcile with Loretta, and establish a television-repair business. Carla appeared in the pilot, while other Cheers characters occasionally visited during the series.
The show was canceled after one season, partly because of low ratings and criticism of its stereotypical portrayal of Italian Americans. The Tortelli characters later returned to Cheers, where viewers learned that Nick's Las Vegas business had failed but that he and Loretta were still together. The series was the first Cheers spin-off, preceding Wings and Frasier.
