What is the name of the Catholic thanksgiving Mass sometimes held before a quinceañera reception?

The Catholic thanksgiving Mass sometimes held before a quinceañera reception is called a Misa de Acción de Gracias.

The Spanish phrase translates as “Mass of Thanksgiving.” It is a religious service in which the family gives thanks for the celebrant’s life and asks for blessing and guidance. The service is associated with Catholic quinceañera customs, but not every celebration includes one.

A quinceañera Mass is not the same as a baptism, confirmation, or wedding. It is a distinct thanksgiving observance connected with the fifteenth birthday. The precise prayers, music, procession, and participation can differ between parishes and countries.

Many contemporary families hold only a secular party, while others preserve the Mass as the spiritual center of the day. The reception, formal entrance, and dances may follow the service later.
