What is the name of the British roadster produced by MG from 1962 to 1980?

The story behind the answer

The British roadster produced by MG from 1962 to 1980 was the MGB.

The MGB replaced the MGA and was introduced as a lightweight, two-seat convertible roadster. Unlike its body-on-frame predecessor, it used a modern unitary construction, which improved strength while reducing manufacturing cost. Its 1.8-liter BMC B-Series four-cylinder engine produced roughly 95 horsepower in early versions.

MG expanded the range in 1965 with the MGB GT, a fixed-roof 2+2 designed with styling input from Pininfarina. Later derivatives included the six-cylinder MGC and the V8-powered MGB GT V8, but the original roadster remained the best-known version.

Production continued until the Abingdon factory closed in 1980. Combined MGB, MGC, and MGB GT V8 sales totaled 523,836 cars. The MGB is often confused with the earlier MGA or the smaller MG Midget; the MGA was its predecessor, while the Midget was a separate, smaller roadster sold alongside it.
