What is the name of the bridge built to reach Lanka?

The story behind the answer

The bridge built to reach Lanka is called Rama Setu. In the Ramayana, Rama’s vanara army constructs the crossing so Rama can reach Ravana’s island kingdom and rescue Sita.

The epic traditionally attributes the bridge’s construction to the vanara engineers Nala and Nila, who organize the army as stones and other materials are placed across the sea. The name Rama Setu means “Rama’s bridge” or “Rama’s causeway.” It is also commonly called Ram Sethu.

The name is associated with Adam’s Bridge, a chain of limestone shoals between Pamban Island off Tamil Nadu and Mannar Island off Sri Lanka. The physical formation is about 48 kilometres long, although the religious epic and the geological feature are not identical kinds of evidence.

Lanka Setu is a plausible-sounding distractor, but it is not the standard answer to this Ramayana question. “Rama Setu” refers to the legendary crossing, while “Adam’s Bridge” is the widely used geographic name for the shoal chain.
