What is the name of the author of the 'Narnia' series?

The story behind the answer

The author of The Chronicles of Narnia series is C. S. Lewis. Lewis was a British writer, literary scholar, and Christian thinker whose full name was Clive Staples Lewis. He wrote the seven Narnia novels between 1949 and 1954; they were published from 1950 through 1956 and became his best-known works of children’s fantasy.

The books follow children who encounter the fictional world of Narnia, a realm of talking animals, magic, mythical beings, and recurring struggles between good and evil. Pauline Baynes illustrated the original editions, and her drawings became closely associated with the series. The stories include The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Last Battle.

Readers sometimes confuse Lewis with J. R. R. Tolkien because both were major twentieth-century British authors of imaginative fiction and were friends in the literary group known as the Inklings. Tolkien wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, not Narnia. Lewis Carroll wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, while Clive Barker is known primarily for horror and fantasy fiction. C. S. Lewis remains the sole author credited with creating the Narnia novels.
