BugDroid is the official robot mascot of the Android operating system.
The green robot was created by Google designer Irina Blok and her team for Android’s public identity. Google introduced the Android logo and mascot in 2007, the same year the Open Handset Alliance and the Android platform were announced.
The character is commonly called the Android robot in everyday speech, while “BugDroid” is the name used for the mascot. Its simple body, antennae, and rounded limbs made it easy to reproduce in icons, merchandise, advertising, and developer materials.
BugDroid is not the name of a particular Android version. Android releases have used names such as Cupcake, KitKat, and Nougat, while later releases primarily use version numbers. The mascot represents the operating system as a whole, not one phone manufacturer or handset model.
