Pandora is the 2016 South Korean disaster film directed by Park Jung-woo.
The film centers on an earthquake and the crisis at a nuclear power plant. Kim Nam-gil plays Jae-hyeok, a worker who becomes caught in the disaster and its dangerous aftermath. The story focuses on emergency response, sacrifice, public safety, and the human cost of institutional failures.
The title uses Pandora as a metaphor for a sealed source of danger whose release creates consequences that are difficult to control. It is not a literal adaptation of the ancient Greek myth, and its plot does not follow the characters of Pandora or Epimetheus.
Pandora belongs to South Korea’s disaster-film tradition, which often combines large-scale emergencies with intimate family and social drama. Its nuclear setting also places it alongside films that explore technological risk and the responsibilities of authorities during a catastrophe.
