What is the name of the 1997 experiment that demonstrated quantum teleportation of a photon’s state?

The story behind the answer

The Bouwmeester experiment demonstrated quantum teleportation of a photon’s state in 1997.

Dik Bouwmeester and collaborators reported the first experimental demonstration of quantum teleportation in 1997. The protocol transferred the polarization state of one photon to another photon using a shared entangled pair, a joint measurement and two classical communication bits.

Quantum teleportation does not transport matter or allow instant communication. The original state is destroyed by the joint measurement, and the receiving photon must be corrected after the classical results arrive. The protocol therefore respects the no-cloning theorem and the relativistic limit on information transfer. Anton Zeilinger’s group performed the landmark experiment, making the experiment also closely associated with Zeilinger.
