What is the name of Tenzin's flying bison?

Tenzin’s flying bison is named Oogi. Oogi is the animal companion associated with Tenzin and his family in The Legend of Korra.

Flying bison are enormous, gentle creatures descended from the original series’ Appa and are closely tied to Air Nomad culture. Tenzin, the son of Avatar Aang and Katara, works to preserve that culture while rebuilding the Air Nation. Oogi therefore represents more than transportation: the bison connects Tenzin’s family to the traditions of the old Air Nomads.

The name is easy to confuse with other famous animal companions in the Avatar universe. Appa belongs to Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender, while Naga is Korra’s polar bear dog and Pabu is Bolin’s small fire ferret. Oogi is specifically Tenzin’s flying bison.

Tenzin’s household includes his wife Pema and their children Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan. Oogi appears in the wider Air Nation storyline alongside that family and their efforts to restore airbending traditions.
