What is the name of Spock's home planet?
Answer
Vulcan
Answer
Vulcan
Spock's home planet is Vulcan. In Star Trek lore, Vulcan is the arid, Class M world where Spock was born and raised before joining Starfleet and serving aboard the USS Enterprise.
Vulcans are known for valuing logic, discipline, and emotional control. Spock is unusual because he is half-human: his father, Sarek, is Vulcan, while his mother, Amanda Grayson, is human. That heritage creates the central tension of his character, as he repeatedly tries to balance human emotion with Vulcan logic.
The original series first shows Vulcan in "Amok Time," when Spock returns home for the Vulcan mating ritual known as pon farr. The episode also establishes the planet's harsh heat and distinctive desert environment. Earlier dialogue in "The Man Trap" notes that Vulcan has no moon, another detail often associated with the fictional world.
In the franchise's prime continuity, Vulcan orbits the real star 40 Eridani A, a system roughly 16 light-years from Earth. The planet should not be confused with Qo'noS, the Klingon homeworld; Romulus, the Romulan homeworld; or Andoria, home of the blue-skinned Andorians. After Vulcan's destruction in the alternate film timeline, survivors establish a colony called New Vulcan.
