What is the name of Saturn’s small moon discovered by Voyager 1 in 1980 and later named Pandora?

The story behind the answer

Saturn’s small moon discovered by Voyager 1 in 1980 is Pandora.

Voyager 1 photographed Pandora during its historic 1980 encounter with Saturn. The moon is an outer shepherd satellite of Saturn’s narrow F ring, where its gravity helps influence the ring’s structure. Pandora is irregularly shaped and heavily cratered, with a mean diameter of roughly 81 kilometers.

The International Astronomical Union formally approved the name Pandora in 1985. Saturn’s moons are commonly named after figures from mythology and literature, and Pandora’s name continues the mythological naming tradition used for many of the planet’s satellites. Pandora is sometimes confused with Prometheus, another small F-ring shepherd moon. Prometheus orbits on the inner side of the F ring, while Pandora orbits on the outer side.
