What is the name of Roger Sterling's first wife?
Answer
Mona Sterling
Answer
Mona Sterling
Roger Sterling’s first wife is Mona Sterling.
Mona is Roger’s wife when Mad Men begins and the mother of their daughter, Margaret. She belongs to Roger’s established Manhattan social world, but the marriage is strained by his drinking, infidelity, and dissatisfaction. Even so, the series portrays Mona as perceptive and capable of confronting Roger and the Sterling Cooper partners.
Roger eventually leaves Mona for Jane Siegel, his much younger former secretary. Their divorce becomes part of the show’s examination of age, status, marriage, and the way powerful men attempt to reinvent themselves. Mona continues to appear after the divorce, often in stories involving Margaret and Roger’s family responsibilities.
Viewers sometimes confuse Mona with Jane Sterling, Roger’s second wife. Marie Calvet is Don Draper’s later romantic connection in Paris, while Margaret Sterling is Roger and Mona’s daughter—not Roger’s spouse. The fuller character name is sometimes given as Mona Sterling Pike after her later marriage to Bruce Pike.
