Pokémon Crystal’s selectable female player character is named Kris.
Pokémon Crystal was released for the Game Boy Color in Japan in 2000 as an enhanced version of Pokémon Gold and Silver. It added animated Pokémon sprites, story changes, and the ability to choose a female player character for the first time in a core Pokémon role-playing game.
Kris is the female counterpart to the game’s male player character, whose default name is Ethan in later official references. Players can rename either protagonist, but Kris is the canonical name used for the female character in Pokémon media and reference material.
Kris is often confused with Lyra, the female protagonist from the later Nintendo DS remakes Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. May and Dawn are also playable female characters, but they belong to later generations: May to Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, and Dawn to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.
