Pokémon Crystal’s female playable protagonist is named Kris. Pokémon Crystal introduced the option to play as a female protagonist in the main series.
Released for the Game Boy Color in Japan in December 2000, Crystal is an enhanced version of Pokémon Gold and Silver. It added story material, animated battle sprites, a Battle Tower, and a more prominent role for the Legendary Pokémon Suicune.
Kris was the first selectable female player character in a main-series Pokémon role-playing game. In earlier games, the player character was presented as male, although players could choose a name and shape the adventure through their actions.
Kris is sometimes confused with Lyra, the female protagonist of the later Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver remakes. May and Dawn belong to the Hoenn and Sinnoh generations respectively, so they are not Crystal’s player character.
