What is the name of Lionel Messi's father?

Lionel Messi’s father is Jorge Messi. His full name is Jorge Horacio Messi, and he has been an important figure in Lionel’s life and football career.

Jorge worked in a steel factory in Rosario, Argentina, while Lionel’s mother, Celia Cuccittini, helped support their family. Jorge recognized his son’s exceptional talent early and took an active role in organizing his football development. Lionel began playing for local club Grandoli before joining Newell’s Old Boys’ youth system.

When Lionel moved to Barcelona at age 13 to join the club’s famed La Masia academy, Jorge accompanied him and helped manage the family’s difficult transition to Spain. Lionel’s growth hormone treatment was expensive, and Barcelona agreed to help cover the medical costs connected with his development.

A common mix-up is confusing Jorge Messi with Jorge Mas, the American businessman and Inter Miami co-owner. Jorge Messi is Lionel’s father and longtime representative; Jorge Mas is a different person involved in Messi’s current club.
