What is the name of Kilimanjaro's highest summit?

Kilimanjaro's highest summit is Uhuru Peak.

Uhuru Peak sits on the crater rim of Kibo, the highest and largest of Kilimanjaro's three volcanic cones. At about 5,895 metres (19,341 feet), it is Africa's highest point and the goal reached by climbers on the mountain's standard trekking routes.

The name Uhuru means “freedom” in Swahili. Tanzania gave the summit this name in 1961, commemorating the country's independence from British rule. Kibo is dormant, while Kilimanjaro's other major cones, Mawenzi and Shira, are considered extinct.

A common mix-up is Stella Point, which is also on Kibo's crater rim and is a major route milestone, but it is not the highest summit. Gillman's Point is another crater-rim location. Hans Meyer, meanwhile, was one of the climbers who made the first recorded ascent of the summit area in 1889.
