Instagram’s feature for co-authoring a post is called Collab.
With Collab, one account creates a Feed post or Reel and invites another account to become a collaborator. If the invitation is accepted, both accounts appear as authors, and the content can reach both sets of followers. The post or Reel is also displayed on both profile grids.
Instagram began testing Collab in 2021 and announced the feature more broadly in October of that year. It was designed for creators, brands, artists and other users who wanted to publish one piece of content jointly rather than uploading duplicate versions to separate profiles.
Collab is often confused with simply tagging another account. A tag identifies someone in a post, while a Collab invitation gives the other account shared authorship and combines engagement such as likes, comments and views. Instagram and users may also write “Collabs” when referring to multiple collaborations, but the feature name itself is Collab.
