Lisa Cuddy is the dean of medicine and hospital administrator at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. She supervises House and must balance his extraordinary diagnostic success against his rule-breaking, unauthorized procedures, and conflicts with patients and staff. Her authority makes her one of the few people able to impose consequences on him.
Cuddy is also a physician, having trained in endocrinology. The character’s professional responsibilities therefore extend beyond ordinary office management: she oversees clinical operations, budgets, hospital policy, and medical personnel. Her relationship with House develops across the series and becomes an important part of the drama.
Lisa Edelstein portrayed Cuddy for the show’s first seven seasons. The answer is sometimes confused with Allison Cameron, another doctor played by Jennifer Morrison, or with Stacy Warner, House’s former partner. Those are separate characters, while Cuddy is the administrator who serves as House’s boss.
