What is the name of Discord's discontinued lower-cost Nitro subscription?

The story behind the answer

Discord’s discontinued lower-cost Nitro subscription was called Nitro Classic.

Nitro Classic began as Discord Nitro’s original paid plan. In October 2018, Discord introduced a more expensive Nitro tier that included access to selected PC games through its game store, while the older plan was renamed Nitro Classic. Classic retained core perks such as animated avatars, custom and animated emoji across servers, larger file uploads, higher-quality screen sharing, and a profile badge, but it did not include the game benefits.

The naming history creates a frequent source of confusion. Discord’s first paid subscription was originally called Discord Nitro; it became Nitro Classic when the broader Nitro tier was introduced. Discord later ended its free game program in 2019, but the Classic name remained in use.

In October 2022, Discord replaced Nitro Classic for new subscribers with Nitro Basic, a cheaper plan offering a smaller selection of Nitro features. Existing Classic subscribers could generally retain their plans while their memberships stayed active, which is why Nitro Classic may still appear in older references even though it was discontinued as a normal new-subscription option.
