Discord’s built-in system bot was named Clyde. Unlike the custom bots that server owners invite and configure, Clyde was provided by Discord itself and appeared in system interactions such as help messages, moderation-related notices, and account communications.

The name also became familiar because Discord used Clyde as the name of its game-controller-shaped mascot and logo. In 2023, Discord experimented with expanding Clyde into an AI assistant powered by OpenAI technology. Users could mention Clyde in supported servers, direct messages, and group conversations to ask questions or generate suggestions.

That AI experiment was separate from the older system-bot identity, which is why Clyde is sometimes described both as Discord’s official bot and as an AI chatbot. Discord announced that the AI version would be deactivated at the end of November 2023, and users could no longer invoke it from December 1.
