What is the name of Diablo III’s console-exclusive dodge maneuver?

The story behind the answer

Diablo III’s console versions introduced the dodge roll maneuver.

The dodge roll lets a character quickly move out of danger using a controller input. It was designed for the console versions, whose direct-control scheme differs from the traditional mouse-and-keyboard interface used on PC. The feature made movement feel more immediate during close combat and helped players avoid enemy attacks.

Diablo III was first released for Windows and macOS in 2012. Console editions followed, including versions for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. The console releases also included other interface and control adjustments tailored to gamepads.

The dodge roll should not be confused with class skills such as the Demon Hunter’s Vault or the Monk’s movement abilities. Those are character skills with resource or cooldown rules; the dodge roll is a general movement feature available through the console control system.
