Bilbo Baggins’s nephew in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings is Frodo Baggins.
Frodo becomes the central Ring-bearer after Bilbo leaves the One Ring to him in the Shire. Gandalf eventually discovers the Ring’s true nature and explains that it must be taken away from Hobbiton. Frodo then accepts the dangerous task of carrying it toward Rivendell and ultimately Mordor.
Although Frodo is called Bilbo’s nephew, Tolkien’s family relationships are more complicated than a simple modern biological description. Bilbo adopts Frodo as his heir, and Frodo is the son of Drogo Baggins and Primula Brandybuck. Frodo is therefore connected to several important Hobbit families.
Samwise Gamgee, Merry Brandybuck, and Pippin Took are Frodo’s companions, not his nephew. Their close friendship is one reason the familial relationships can be easy to mix up.
