What is the name of Aretha Franklin's sister who recorded 'Piece of My Heart'?

Aretha Franklin’s sister who recorded “Piece of My Heart” was Erma Franklin. Erma, Aretha’s older sister, released the original soul version of the song in 1967.

Written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns, Erma Franklin’s recording appeared on the Shout label with “Baby, What You Want Me to Do” as its B-side. Her performance climbed to number 10 on Billboard’s Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart and also reached number 62 on the pop chart.

The song is often associated more strongly with Janis Joplin because Big Brother and the Holding Company’s 1968 version became a major mainstream hit. That famous cover can cause listeners to forget that Erma recorded the original. Erma was a respected gospel and soul singer in her own right, and her recording earned a Grammy nomination.
