What is the name of Amazon's e-book reader?

The story behind the answer

Amazon's e-book reader is called the Kindle. It is a family of dedicated e-readers and related reading apps designed to let users buy, download, and read digital books through Amazon's Kindle ecosystem.

Amazon introduced the first Kindle on November 19, 2007. The original device cost $399 and used an electronic-paper display intended to resemble printed text while consuming relatively little power. It also connected wirelessly to Amazon's Kindle Store, allowing readers to obtain books without plugging the device into a computer.

The name “Kindle” was chosen as a metaphor for lighting a fire of intellectual interest. Over time, the product line expanded to include models such as Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Oasis, and Kindle Scribe. Amazon also released Kindle apps for phones, tablets, computers, and web browsers, so reading Kindle books does not require Kindle-branded hardware. A frequent confusion is with Fire: Kindle Fire was once the name of an Amazon tablet, but the tablet line was later renamed Amazon Fire.
