What is the name of Airbnb’s Bélo symbol?

The story behind the answer

Airbnb’s stylized symbol is called the Bélo.

Airbnb introduced the Bélo in 2014 as part of a major redesign of its brand identity. The company described the symbol as representing belonging and said its shape combines ideas associated with people, places, love, and Airbnb itself. Its rounded, looped form was intended to work as a simple global icon rather than as a literal picture of a house or hotel.

The name “Bélo” is pronounced like “below” in English. Airbnb used the symbol alongside a custom wordmark and a coral-pink color called Rausch. The redesign was presented as a way to unify the experiences of hosts and guests across countries and languages.

People sometimes call the mark a heart, a location pin, or an abstract letter A. Those descriptions reflect parts of its appearance, but Bélo is Airbnb’s official name for the symbol. Airbnb began in 2008 when Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia, and Nathan Blecharczyk created a home-sharing service in San Francisco.
