What is the name of Agatha Christie's only child?
Answer
Rosalind Hicks
Answer
Rosalind Hicks
Agatha Christie’s only child was Rosalind Hicks. Born Rosalind Margaret Clarissa Christie on 5 August 1919, she was the daughter of Christie and her first husband, Archibald Christie, an officer who had served in the Royal Flying Corps.
Rosalind grew up during the early years of her mother’s writing career. Christie’s first published novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, appeared in 1920, about a year after Rosalind’s birth. Christie later dedicated The Murder at the Vicarage to her daughter, using the affectionate inscription “To Rosalind.”
Rosalind’s life remained closely connected with her mother’s legacy. She married twice, had a son named Mathew Prichard, and became president of the Agatha Christie Society in 1993. After Christie’s death in 1976, Rosalind helped protect and manage aspects of the author’s literary estate. She died in 2004. Rosalind Mallowan is a common mix-up: Mallowan was associated with Christie’s second marriage, but Hicks was her married surname.
