The name of the popular Italian orange- and vanilla-flavored liqueur is Tuaca.
Tuaca is a sweet, golden-brown brandy liqueur made with brandy, orange and other citrus essences, vanilla, and spices. It is bottled at 35% alcohol by volume and can be served chilled, over ice, or mixed into cocktails.
The drink originated in Italy and was initially associated with a milk, brandy, and vanilla mixture called Brandy Milk. After milk was removed, the name became Tuoca, formed from the surnames of its owners, Tuoni and Canepa. The spelling was later changed back to Tuaca to make it easier for English speakers to pronounce.
American troops stationed in Italy helped popularize it internationally after World War II by bringing bottles home. Brown-Forman acquired the brand in 2002, and Sazerac purchased it in 2016. Tuaca is sometimes mistaken for an orange liqueur such as triple sec, but its brandy-and-vanilla base gives it a richer, warmer flavor.
