The electric delivery van built by Rivian for Amazon is called the Rivian EDV, short for Electric Delivery Van.
Rivian developed the EDV in collaboration with Amazon as a purpose-built vehicle for last-mile package delivery. Unlike Rivian’s consumer-focused R1T pickup and R1S SUV, the EDV has a walk-through cargo area, delivery-oriented ergonomics, and systems intended to help drivers make frequent stops efficiently.
Amazon and Rivian announced their partnership in 2019, with Amazon committing to purchase up to 100,000 electric delivery vehicles. The first production EDVs began reaching Amazon delivery operations in 2021, and wider rollout followed in 2022. The vehicles are commonly seen in Amazon’s blue-and-black delivery livery.
EDV variants include the EDV 500 and EDV 700, named for approximate cargo-volume classes. “Rivian Delivery Van” is understandable descriptive wording, but Rivian EDV is the established model designation for Amazon’s vehicle.
