What is the maximum operating speed of Taiwan High Speed Rail trains?

The story behind the answer

Taiwan High Speed Rail trains have a maximum operating speed of 300 km/h.

Taiwan High Speed Rail runs along the island’s densely populated western corridor, linking major cities from Nangang in the north to Zuoying in the south. The system uses electric multiple-unit trains based on Japan’s Shinkansen technology, adapted for Taiwan’s conditions.

The railway opened to scheduled passenger service in January 2007. Its route includes extensive viaducts, tunnels, bridges, and elevated sections because of Taiwan’s limited flat land and mountainous terrain.

The 300 km/h operating figure should not be confused with the line’s approximate total length or with the higher test speeds achieved by some trains elsewhere. Timetabled journey times also depend on the number of stops and the train’s service pattern.
