What is the maximum operating speed of Morocco’s Al Boraq trains?

The story behind the answer

Morocco’s Al Boraq trains have a maximum operating speed of 320 km/h.

Al Boraq is Morocco’s high-speed rail service, launched in November 2018. It runs on the dedicated high-speed line between Tangier and Kenitra, with onward services continuing to Rabat and Casablanca on upgraded conventional tracks. The service made Morocco the first country in Africa to operate high-speed trains.

The trainsets are Alstom Euroduplex units, derived from the same broad family of technology used by French TGV services. On the high-speed section, they can reach 320 km/h; they travel more slowly on conventional lines and through stations.

The name Al Boraq comes from al-Buraq, a winged creature in Islamic tradition. The 320 km/h figure is therefore a line-service capability, not a claim that every part of the route is operated at that speed.
