The male escort in a quinceañera court is traditionally called a chambelán.
The word comes from Spanish usage for a chamberlain or attendant. In a quinceañera, chambelanes may accompany the celebrant as part of her court and participate in the event’s choreographed entrance or presentation. A family may select one chambelán or several, depending on its chosen format.
The court can also include female attendants known as damas. Together, these attendants may wear coordinated clothing and take part in rehearsed dances or formal photographs. Their roles are ceremonial and do not have a single universal structure.
Terminology varies across countries and families, and English-language celebrations may simply use “male attendants” or “escorts.” A chambelán is not the same as a padrino, who is a sponsor or godparent-like supporter and may help with expenses or ceremonial gifts.
