What is the male equivalent of a quinceañera traditionally called?

The story behind the answer

The male equivalent of a quinceañera is traditionally called a quinceañero.

The term uses the masculine Spanish ending -ero in place of the feminine form commonly heard in quinceañera. It refers to a boy or young man celebrating his fifteenth birthday with a comparable coming-of-age event.

Quinceañero celebrations are less widespread than quinceañeras, and their customs can differ substantially. Some include formal clothing, a court, a religious service, a reception, or choreographed dances, while others are informal family parties.

The vocabulary should not be confused with chambelán, a title often used for a male attendant in a quinceañera’s court. A quinceañero is the celebrant; a chambelán is generally part of the supporting court.
