What is the main color of an adult snowy owl’s eyes?
Answer
Yellow
Answer
Yellow
An adult snowy owl’s eyes are yellow.
The bright yellow eyes contrast with the species’ pale plumage and are one of its most recognizable features. Snowy owls also have a dark, sharply hooked bill, but much of the bill is concealed by dense bristle-like feathers around the face. Their eyes face forward, giving them the binocular vision typical of owls.
Snowy owl plumage varies substantially. Males often become whiter with age, while females and younger birds usually retain more dark barring. This variation sometimes leads observers to mistake a heavily marked female for a different owl species.
Snowy owls breed across Arctic tundra and may move south during winters when food is scarce or populations are high. Their diet includes lemmings and other small mammals, but they can also take birds. They hunt both by day and at night, an important adaptation to the Arctic’s extreme seasonal daylight.
