What is the longest river in Europe, flowing into the Caspian Sea?
Answer
Volga River
Answer
Volga River
The Volga River is the longest river in Europe, flowing into the Caspian Sea.
The Volga runs for about 3,530 kilometres through western Russia. It rises in the Valdai Hills northwest of Moscow and travels generally southward before reaching the Caspian Sea through a broad delta.
The river has been central to Russian trade, transport and settlement for centuries. Major cities on or near its course include Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Samara, Saratov and Volgograd. The Volga basin also supports extensive agriculture and industry.
The Danube is Europe’s second-longest river and crosses more countries than the Volga, which can cause confusion. The Volga is wholly within Russia, while the Danube passes through or borders ten countries before entering the Black Sea.
