What is the logo of that is used by Mack Trucks?

The logo used by Mack Trucks is a bulldog. The bulldog became associated with Mack after British soldiers used the nickname for the company’s tough Mack AC trucks during the First World War.

The AC model had a short, blunt-nosed design and a reputation for surviving rough roads, heavy loads and demanding military work. Those qualities reminded soldiers of the determined British Bulldog, so the nickname spread from the truck to Mack vehicles more broadly.

Mack adopted the bulldog as its corporate symbol in 1922. A bulldog emblem can appear on the front of Mack trucks, while a gold-plated version traditionally indicates a vehicle equipped with a complete Mack drivetrain, including the engine, transmission and axles.

The symbol is sometimes confused with a simple hood ornament, but it represents the Mack brand itself. In 1932, Mack chief engineer Alfred Fellows Masury designed the bulldog hood ornament; he later received a patent for the design.
