What is the length of a full-size snooker table?

The story behind the answer

A full-size snooker table is 12 feet long.

The standard playing surface measures 12 feet by 6 feet, giving the table a two-to-one length-to-width ratio. Those dimensions make snooker’s table substantially larger than many pool tables and help explain the sport’s emphasis on cue-ball control, distance and precise positional play.

The measurements describe the playing area inside the cushions, not the complete outside dimensions of the wooden table and its cabinet. The furniture is larger because it includes cushions, rails, pockets and supporting structure.

Smaller tables are available for homes, clubs and junior settings, but they are not the full-size competition table. This is why descriptions of professional snooker normally specify a 12-by-6-foot table. The table’s baulk line and “D” are positioned at one end, while the triangular pack of reds begins at the other.
