The largest peninsula in the world is the Arabian Peninsula.

Located in West Asia, the Arabian Peninsula covers about 3.24 million square kilometers, making it roughly comparable in area to India. It is bounded by the Red Sea to the west, the Gulf of Aden to the south, the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman to the southeast and the Persian Gulf to the east. Its northern edge meets the Levant and Mesopotamia.

Saudi Arabia occupies most of the peninsula. Other countries located wholly or partly on it include Yemen, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait, along with southern parts of Iraq and Jordan. The peninsula also contains major deserts, including the Rub’ al Khali, or Empty Quarter.

The Arabian Peninsula is sometimes called Arabia, although Arabia can also refer more broadly to the Arab world or historical cultural regions. The Antarctic and Scandinavian peninsulas are substantial landforms, but neither approaches the Arabian Peninsula’s area. “Indian Peninsula” is not the standard geographic name for the Indian subcontinent’s southern projection.
