What is the Japanese title of the original Pokémon Red and Green games?
Answer
Pocket Monsters Red and Green
Answer
Pocket Monsters Red and Green
The original Japanese games were titled Pocket Monsters Red and Green.
Game Freak and Nintendo released these versions in Japan on February 27, 1996, for the Game Boy. They were the first entries in the Pokémon video-game series and introduced the original 151 Pokémon.
International releases used the names Pokémon Red and Blue instead. The Japanese Green version was not released outside Japan, and the overseas Red and Blue games were based largely on the later Japanese Blue revision.
This difference explains why many international players assume the franchise began with Red and Blue. Both names describe important versions, but Pocket Monsters Red and Green are the titles of the original Japanese launch pair.
