What is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies?
Answer
Mount Robson
Answer
Mount Robson
Mount Robson is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. Rising to 3,954 meters (12,972 feet), it stands in British Columbia and is also one of the most prominent mountains in North America.
The mountain lies entirely within Mount Robson Provincial Park, near the western edge of the Canadian Rockies. Its striking south face is visible from the Yellowhead Highway, while the heavily glaciated north face rises above Berg Lake. From nearby Kinney Lake, the summit climbs almost 3,000 meters, giving Mount Robson dramatic local relief.
Mount Robson was first surveyed as the highest Canadian Rockies peak in 1893, after earlier explorers had incorrectly estimated the elevations of Mount Hooker and Mount Brown. The first accepted ascent took place on July 31, 1913, by William W. Foster, Albert H. MacCarthy, and Conrad Kain.
Mount Logan is higher, but it is in the Saint Elias Mountains, not the Canadian Rockies. Mount Waddington is higher than Mount Robson within British Columbia, but it belongs to the Coast Mountains.
