Answer

Answer
8,848.86 metres
Mount Everest’s highest officially measured elevation is 8,848.86 metres.
Nepal and China announced this jointly agreed height in December 2020 after new surveys by both countries. The figure includes the mountain’s snow and ice cap, which can change over time. Earlier official measurements commonly gave 8,848 metres, so older books and quizzes may show that rounded value.
Everest stands in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas on the Nepal–China border. In Nepal it is called Sagarmatha, while in Tibet it is known as Chomolungma. The mountain was named in English after George Everest, a former Surveyor General of India, although he did not personally survey the peak.
Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made the first confirmed ascent in 1953. K2 is the world’s second-highest mountain, but Everest remains the highest point above sea level.
