What is the height of the Eiffel Tower, including its antennas?

The story behind the answer

The Eiffel Tower is 330 metres tall including its antennas.

The tower was built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris, marking the centenary of the French Revolution. Designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel’s company, it reached 300 metres at its original summit and became the tallest man-made structure in the world when completed.

Its height has increased as broadcasting antennas were added and replaced. The commonly cited current height is 330 metres, while the iron structure itself rises to about 300 metres. This explains why older books and tourist references may give different figures.

Construction began in 1887 and the tower opened to visitors on 31 March 1889, before the exposition officially opened. More than 18,000 individual iron parts were used, joined by millions of rivets. The tower was initially intended to be temporary but survived because of its communications value.
