What is the first name of Nurse Chapel?

The story behind the answer

The first name of Nurse Chapel is Christine. Christine Chapel is the Enterprise's nurse in Star Trek: The Original Series, where Majel Barrett portrayed her throughout the show's three-season run.

Chapel first appears in the episode "The Naked Time," which aired in 1966. Her backstory says she joined Starfleet after breaking away from her life on Earth to search for her missing fiancé, the scientist Roger Korby. Korby's fate becomes part of the plot of "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" and gives Chapel a personal connection to one of the series' early mysteries.

The character is also closely associated with Spock. Chapel has romantic feelings for him, while Spock generally suppresses or avoids openly expressing his own emotions. Their relationship is especially visible in episodes such as "Amok Time" and "Plato's Stepchildren," though Chapel remains a medical professional rather than simply a romantic subplot.

Viewers sometimes confuse her with Janice Rand, another woman associated with the Enterprise crew, or with Uhura, the ship's communications officer. "Nurse Chapel" is the character's title and surname; Christine is her canonical first name. Later productions expanded her story, including Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, in which she is played by Jess Bush.
