Answer
The Struggle Within
Answer
The Struggle Within
“The Struggle Within” is the final track on Metallica's self-titled album, commonly called The Black Album.
The song closes the standard twelve-track sequence after “The God That Failed.” Its placement gives the album a forceful ending following the slower, more reflective mood of “Nothing Else Matters” and the ominous atmosphere of “The God That Failed.”
James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich wrote the song, as they did most of the album's material, with Kirk Hammett and Jason Newsted also receiving songwriting credits on selected tracks across the record. The Black Album's songs were largely written in a concentrated two-month period during mid-1990.
Listeners sometimes confuse the album's final track with “My Friend of Misery,” which precedes “The God That Failed” near the end of the sequence. “The Struggle Within” is the twelfth and concluding song on the original album, not a bonus track or later reissue addition.
