What is the fictional world created by C.S. Lewis in The Chronicles of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

Narnia is the fictional world created by C.S. Lewis in The Chronicles of Narnia.

The setting includes forests, islands, castles, talking animals, mythical creatures, and human kingdoms. Although the series is named for Narnia, the word can refer both to the wider fictional universe and, more specifically, to the central kingdom ruled at different times by human and animal monarchs.

Lewis published seven Narnia books between 1950 and 1956. The stories include The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Last Battle. Narnia is not the same setting as J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, although Lewis and Tolkien were close colleagues in Oxford and belonged to the literary discussion group known as the Inklings.
